Join us on a thrilling herping adventure in Guangzhou, where we will explore hills and mountains to observe the stunning amphibians and reptiles native to East Asia. Throughout different seasons, we will encounter a diverse range of target species. Our primary focus will be on various Elapids, Vipers, and large Colubers that inhabit this region.
Suburb of Guangzhou
Day 1-2
Guangzhou, a thriving city in southern China, is renowned for its rich traditional culture and delectable cuisine. Beyond its urban allure, the city boasts lush subtropical forests teeming with diverse herpetological wonders. With numerous direct flights connecting Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to destinations worldwide, and the convenience of a high-speed train from Hong Kong, accessibility is a breeze. Our first night will be spent herping in the suburb of Guangzhou, seeking elusive treasures like the Banded Krait (Bungarus fasciatus), Chinese Cobra (Naja atra), Chinese Coral Snake (Sinomicrurus annularis), and Golden Beauty Rat Snake (Elaphe taeniura mocquardi), as well as various other species.

Low Mountain Regions
Day 3-4

Embark on herping adventures in the tranquil low mountain regions of northern Guangzhou. In the vibrant seasons of summer and autumn, our quest will lead us to seek out Chinese water dragon (Physignathus cocincinus), King Cobra (Ophiophagus hannah), and with excellent chances to encounter Many-banded Krait (Bungarus multicinctus), Chinese Habu (Protobothrops mucrosquamatus), and Vine snake (Ahaetulla prasina). Additionally, keep an eye out for exquisite and rare species like the Red Bamboo Racer (Oreocryptophis porphyraceus) and various Hebius species. As the seasons transition to spring and winter, our focus shifts to two elusive viper species, the Azemiops feae and the Ovophis tonkinensis, providing steady sightings annually, while daylight hours may offer glimpses of diverse coluber species.
High Elevation Area
Day 5-6
Venturing into the elevated realms bordering Guangzhou and Huizhou unveils vibrant species, including Pseudoxenodon species, Oligodon catenata, and Rhabdophis guangdongensis. In the seasons of spring and summer, our path may intersect with turtle species like Platysternon megacephalum and Geoemyda spengleri. Moreover, this location boasts a tapestry of insects and diverse amphibian populations, adding to the allure of our herping expedition.
